Francisco Mena grew up in the city of Vina Del Mar in the country of Chile. His first memory that he has of his childhood is one which includes music of course. He remembers his father bringing him home his first guitar, a beat up old acoustic his father had picked up from a vendor on the dusty streets of Chile for fifteen bucks, and playing on his fathers lap into the late hours of that night and he has been playing ever since. While in Chile in his youth he experimented with many eclectic sounds in two original music bands which had many influences that included, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Police, BB King, Lost Tres and The Beetles. In his early 20’s he left Chile for good in 2003 to move to NY to pursue the American dream. He stopped playing guitar, almost giving up music altogether, but his dreams have always included music. Francis decided to settle down in Croton on the Hudson in beautiful Westchester, where he went out, bought a brand new Martin acoustic-electric (DCX1E) guitar and began writing again. He has been writing original acoustic music for the last 3 years and some of his more recent influences include Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Coldplay, Damien Rice, Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams, REM, and The Strokes. A recent article written about Francis’ playing called his style of music “versatile, with a smooth voice, which bears more than just a stylistic resemblance to Dave Matthews”.
